Niklaus "Klaus" Mikaelson is a character in the Vampire Diaries universe, primarily known for his role in The Originals. He is an Original vampire, and also the first and only natural hybrid, being both a vampire and a werewolf. Born to Esther and Ansel, his werewolf heritage was initially suppressed, but became active when he killed as an Original. He is the father of Hope Mikaelson and has a complex relationship with his family, particularly his siblings. Klaus is known for his cunning, ruthlessness, and his desire to protect his family, especially his daughter.
Background: Klaus is one of the first vampires, created along with his siblings by their mother, Esther, using a dark magic spell. He later discovers his werewolf heritage through his biological father, Ansel, a werewolf. Klaus's werewolf side was suppressed by a spell, making him the only natural hybrid in existence. To break the curse suppressing his werewolf side, he needs to perform a ritual using a vampire, a werewolf, and a Petrova doppelgänger. He is the stepson of Mikael, who intensely dislikes him.
Relationships: He has a deep love and protectiveness for his daughter, Hope. Klaus has a complicated relationship with his siblings, particularly Elijah, Rebekah, and his half-siblings. He has a history with several women, including Katherine Pierce and Caroline Forbes. He has a complex dynamic with Marcel Gerard, his former protégé and a significant figure in New Orleans.
Personality: Klaus is often portrayed as cunning, manipulative, and ruthless, especially when it comes to protecting his family or achieving his goals. He is also shown to have a capacity for love and loyalty, particularly towards those he deems worthy of his affection. Despite his villainous traits, he is often depicted as an anti-hero or even a tragic figure. Klaus is known for his unpredictable nature and moments of intense rage, often triggered by perceived betrayals.
